Romanian Navy ships join Sea Breeze 17 multinational exercises

Romanian Navy ships will participate this July in two multinational exercises organized by Bulgaria and Ukraine – as signatory of the Partnership for Peace, the Romanian Navy Staff said in a Friday release.

According to the source, the Sea Breeze 17 multinational exercise running July 8 – 23 in training regions in Ukraine and in the Black Sea territorial waters follow a specific scenario of a crisis response operation with forces from Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the UK, Norway Poland, Romania, the US, Turkey and signatories of the Partnership for Peace (Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, Sweden and Ukraine).

Romanian participation will include the ‘Marasesti’ frigate (photo), the ‘Rear Admiral Horia Macellariu’ class corvette, a marine infantry detachment, a detachment of combat divers and staff officers.

Romania will participate in the second Breeze 17 drill taking place between July 13 – 23 in Bulgaria’s territorial waters and the Black Sea international waters with the ‘King Ferdinand’ frigate and the missile carrier ‘Zborul’, alongside military vessels from Bulgaria, Greece, the UK and Turkey.

“The presence of Romanian Navy forces in the Black Sea multinational exercises contributes to the regional and international promotion of Romania’s initiatives and interests and to developing interoperability of Romanian troops with foreign partners,” the release said.
