Major Laurentiu Serban, bronze medal at Invictus 2017 Paralympic Games

Major Laurentiu Serban won the bronze medal on Monday in 1,500 metres, at the Invictus 2017 paralympic games.

“The first medal of the Invictus Romania team was won on Monday by Major Laurentiu Serban, who won the bronze in 1,500 metre. Laurentiu Serban, the captain of the Invictus Romania team, was wounded in Afghanistan in 2006 while taking his colleagues from an armored amphibious carrier that had been attacked with an improvised explosive device,” informs a press release from the Ministry of National Defence (MApN).

Romania’s team participating in the Invictus games in Toronto is made up of 15 servicemen wounded in operation theatres in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Invictus Team Romania participates in six individual sports disciplines – archery, athletics, indoor rowing, powerlifting, cycling and swimming. The Romanian team also competes in the sitting volleyball competition.

In the seven days of the competition, Invictus Team Romania members will participate in over 30 sporting competitions. Beside them there are their coaches from the Steaua Bucharest Army Sports Club, family members, Romanian friends and supporters from Canada.
