NATO heads of state or government signed on Thursday a NATO Innovation Fund Letter of Commitment on as part of the Madrid Summit.
“Important step in boosting Allied technological progress and innovation and bolstering the security of our citizens,” President Klaus Iohannis wrote on Twitter on Thursday.
Romania’s Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu explained on the sidelines of the NATO summit that Romania will provide two test centres for the Defence Innovation Accelerator for NATO.
“Participation in the Innovation Fund brings a further modernisation to the North Atlantic Alliance, because new dual-use technologies must be taken into account when we talk about maintaining the technological advance in defence and from that point of view, the Defence Innovation Accelerator for NATO Charter was signed today. And that means that from now on NATO will invest in advanced research in the field of new technologies, and Romania will also provide two test centres, two institutes that have been selected by NATO based on NATO rules. That means that Romania will get involved in this process of NATO’s technological modernisation and technological advance,” said Bogdan Aurescu.
