Romanian Defence Minister Angel Tilvar and his French counterpart Sebastien Lecornu on Thursday opened the headquarters of the Collective Defense Battle Group (CDBG) at Cincu.

In the morning, the Romanian and French officials toured the facilities of the Getica Combined National Training Centre at Cincu, an item on Lecornu’s Romanian visit schedule.

The opening of the CDBG headquarters was marked by the unveiling of an honorary plaque.

At France’s proposal to take over the role of the framework nation, the French battalion deployed in Romania, considered the spearhead of NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), is currently working on a Collective Defense Battle Group (CDBG) in Romania integrating, on a rotating basis, Belgium and the Netherlands.

A Romanian NATO battle group was established in May by transforming the NATO multinational components of the NATO Response Force deployed in Romania.

The French Minister of the Armed Forces, Sebastien Lecornu, on an official visit to Romania on Thursday, had  meetings with the Romanian Defence Minister, Angel Tîlvăr, with President Klaus Iohannis and PM Nicolae Ciucă. The French delegation’s agenda also included a visit to the ‘Getica’ Joint National Training Centre in Cincu, central Romania, and a wreath-laying ceremony at the French Heroes Monument in Bucharest.

Lecornu: France is a proud partner within NATO, having proven that in the past and also today

France is a proud partner within NATO, “it has demonstrated that in the past and it is demonstrating this today as well”, the Minister of the French Armed Forces, Sebastien Lecornu said on Thursday.

He spoke about the current security challenges in the region and the need for allied and bilateral collaboration.

The French minister also emphasized the importance of ground-air defense in Romania.

The Romanian Minister of Defense, Angel Tilvar, stated that “the situation in Ukraine demonstrated the importance of complementarity between the European Union and NATO”. He added that the experts in Cincu managed to create “in record time” the infrastructure for the NATO Battle Group in our country, France being the framework nation of this group.
